Family Politics
The phone rang i answered and a little bug said, "Hello is this Ethel Doyle's house?"
I said, "No, it is Grandma Ethel's house. Hello x Do you know who this is?"
He said, "I can tell from your voice that it is Aunt Terri"
I said, "Well, why don t you say, 'Hi Aunt Terri'"
He sang in that teasing joy of his, "Hi Aunt Terri"
I said, "I love you, Honey. Grandma has a really bad cold here she is"
I love my nieces and nephews.
My sister was talking about making a christening gown for their new granddaughter.
Mom said, "Why don t you give them yours?"
I said, "I was saving it for Julie."
Julie is Maripat's daughter. And when I was born Dad sent an 11 year old Maripat into a store where she chose a beautiful christening gown. She went all out in a way my frugal mother never would have.
It's a gown with a linen slip and a beautiful bonnet.
But I kept it secret that i was going to give it to Julie because her mom had picked it out and well, it was a huge thing that a Catholic Mother would offer her daughter's baptismal gown for a Lutheran Baptism.
but she loves my Maripat's husband. When the Maripat and her husband got her after i was out of the hospital the first time they split shifts.
Maripat listened to me and Tom took mom to Walgreen's to get me meds.
But when Maripat got here i was able to let tears come to my eyes because i was so sick and tired of having to be tough to fight this.
I didn t have to be tough in front of her.
But it was huge that mom okayed the giving of the gown; i just kept it to myself.
I told my brother in law who is a Lutheran Minister "if i die before mom i want you to give the homily."
He said, "Ok."
We've come along way eceumenically as a family with him in our lives.
Maripat made me smile because she wrote to me, "How are you feeling? You are sounding a lot stronger on your blog?"
I laughed. You know the Mayor of Hilldale thing.
Sue Baumann called it like it is when she said during her exit interview as Mayor that the Mayor of Hilldale likes to promote himself. Notice how he self promotes that he was at the Governor's Mansion and then he was at the White House and how many times can the Mayor of Hilldale type the pronoun "I"
I thought Madison was about being a "we"
First of all John Norquist started the idea of the speed rail. Yeah he had problems in the end but his wife kept her last name. Susan Mudd is an environmentalist with a voice of her own.
